Reading Challenge(s)
Since it’s a nice neat date for making pledges, and I need direction in my reading, I am signing on for these reading challenges, and will keep track of my progress here, since I don’t seem to be doing anything else with this tumblr.
“The 2010 Support Your Local Library Reading Challenge”
http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/2009/11/2010-support-your-local-library-reading.html
The general gist is to check out and read X number of books from the library. Since I normally get very few books and save them until they’re incredibly overdue, I pledge in for 50.
“Woolf In Winter”
http://nonsuchbook.typepad.com/nonsuch_book/2009/11/woolf-in-winter-an-invitation.html
Read the following:
Mrs. Dalloway: Jan 15
To The Lighthouse: Jan 29
Orlando: Feb 12
The Waves: Feb 26
“The Chunkster Challenge”
http://chunksterchallenge.blogspot.com/
This is pretty much just reading thick books. Which I often do anyway… . but I am committing myself to “6 or more books of 450 pages or more, OR 3 or more books of 750 pages or more” All adult lit. Perhaps this means that I will actually finish part one of my never-ending personal Proust challenge (the CK Scott Moncrieff translation, part two is the new Penguin translations)
Perhaps my list will look like this:
1. In Search of Lost Time vol. V: The Captive & The Prisoner: M. Proust
2. Buddenbrooks: T. Mann
3. Ulysses: J. Joyce
4. Demons: F. Dostoyevsky
5. ?
6. ?
Hm. there will probably be more.
